July 4th: a calm celebration

Did you guys have a fun 4th of July? We decided to just wing it and ended up having a relaxing time. I can definitely sit out one year of mad traffic and heat exhaustion.

So my day started off nice and easy. I slept in, made a huge breakfast consisting of mostly bacon (hey, holiday indulgence!), & painted my nails in a festive manner. Because that's how I show my patriotism - through nail art. The colorful glitter I painted on the tips were the best part but you can barely see them. They were my "fireworks."

Then my husband took me out on a latte date at our favorite coffee house & we strolled all along Brookside, enjoying the emptiness of the street that's normally littered with people at all hours of the day. This place has the best vanilla latte and chai.

While we were driving home, we could see the fireworks show starting at Riverside, which is only a couple miles away from our house. We were racing home to drop some things off and noticed that we didn't even need to rush back out because we could see the show from our front porch! It was amazing. How come we've never realized this all the years we've lived here?! Craziness! So we got to just chill on the porch, avoiding the traffic jams and mobs of drunk people carrying their lawn chairs and coolers. It was so fantastic! Although, we had planned on scaling one of the nearby restaurants for a rooftop view, we were too lazy at that point. Next time, I'm sure.

How did you spend your holiday? Any tacky (or non-tacky) outfit sightings?
